Though no people were injured in a Sunday evening fire that significantly damaged an apartment building near Norcross, one dog died. Gwinnett County firefighters were dispatched to the blaze, which occured in the 1100 block of Forest Vale Way in unincorporated Norcross, at 8:45 p.m. after a 911 caller reported they saw "flames and smoke coming from an apartment." "As crews headed in the direction of the dispatched address, they could see a thick column of black smoke on the skyline," said Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Donald Strother. "Upon their arrival, firefighters found heavy flames pushing out of the left rear side of the two-story, wood-framed apartment building."
