Through the help of a community grant, the Newnan Fire Department now has three new automatic external defibrillators (AED) in service.
“It’s a proven fact that with cardiac arrest, early and effective CPR and early defibrillation is the way for a successful resuscitation,” said Chief Stephen Brown. Firefighter Kevin Parten recently contacted Coweta-Fayette EMC for the purposes of utilizing their “Operation Round-Up” to help offset the cost of the new AEDs – a total of $4,100 for all three.
“Our survival rate is pretty high,” Parten said. “We use these a good amount.”
The majority of Newnan Fire Department’s 5,000 annual calls are medical, Brown said. So having more AEDs is a positive move for all citizens.
