The benefit softball game between the Milledgeville Fire Department and Baldwin County Fire Rescue was everything it was billed to be and perhaps a little more.
When everything was settled on the field of play Sunday afternoon, it was the city firefighters besting their counterparts from the county, 36-23, in a benefit softball game played on Field 4 at Walter B. Williams Park.
“It feels wonderful,” exclaimed Milledgeville Fire Chief William Collier immediately after his team won the seven-inning game. “Everyone knew we were going to whip Baldwin County’s behind. Did you not know that?”
Asked what the key was to winning the game, Collier quickly replied.
“I think our guys were really dedicated and they practiced really hard to get ready for this game,” Collier told The Union-Recorder.
