Two chicken houses near Berlin were destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon. The Colquitt County Volunteer Fire Association said an official report had not been submitted as of late Monday morning. Its records indicated volunteer fire units from Berlin, Culbertson, Autreyville and Westside responded to the fire at 526 Chapman Road. A neighbor, Ron Mead, posted photos of the blaze to his Facebook page. In an interview Monday, Mead said he and his wife were returning from out-of-town when they saw the smoke. They realized the fire was across the road from their house and went down a lane to investigate as his wife called 911. When they arrived, they saw the farm’s owners running from a barn. “Then the wind got to blowing and it caught the house next to it,” Mead said. “It burned to the ground too.”
