Rabun County Fire Services sharpened their emergency response and victim rescue skills with their annual training at their Station 4 training center in Lakemont last week. The annual training is offered two days every year and is required every year for interior firefighters, said Justin Upchurch, assistant fire chief for Rabun County Fire Services. He said that interior firefighters are those who wear air packs and go inside burning buildings. Rabun’s volunteer fire department also has support firefighters who do not wear air packs and cannot go inside burning buildings or enter the “hot zone,” the surrounding area where fire and smoke are present.
