A Dalton man indicted for 17 counts of arson and facing a maximum sentence of 255 years in prison was found not guilty by a Whitfield County jury last week. Indictments had charged Gaskin with 17 counts of arson in the second degree and 17 counts of criminal damage to property in the second degree. At the time of his arrest in March 2018, the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office said investigators were able to locate evidence implicating Gaskin and also found “additional evidence” while serving a search warrant at Gaskin’s residence. “I am very proud of David Tatem for protecting his client, standing up for his right to a trial and saving the taxpayers from the enormous expense of confining an innocent man,” Glaser said.
