A brush fire in Liberty County causes traffic jams along Leroy Coffer Highway. It happened Friday afternoon at around 3:30 after a vehicle dragging a chain caused the dry ground to catch fire.
Due to the dry conditions, the Liberty Country Fire Department are urging people not to burn anything. “Right now, we’re urging everybody, don’t burn. There are no burn permits being issued by the Georgia Forestry Commission,” said Fire Chief Brian Darby. They were able to contain the fire with no injuries and no damage to a nearby home. Even with it contained. Several hot spots remained to force crews to stay on the scene. Traffic near Luke Road was restricted to one lane due to the fire. It took hours for them to reopen the other lane.
