A Savannah firefighter is being celebrated as a hero after coming to the aid of a fellow airline passenger.
Savannah Fire & Rescue says AFF Trevor Jaha was on a flight to Los Angeles in September when another passenger suffered sudden cardiac arrest and had no pulse.
Jaha performed CPR for more than 30 minutes. While four shocks with an AED didn't get her pulse back, a fifth attempt did the trick. The plane made an emergency landing.
"After a hospital stay she regained the ability to walk and talk - with no signs of brain damage," The department says Jaha's efforts helped ensure the woman didn't suffer brain damage.
"She is my sister, and he saved her. I can't thank him enough and I just wanted to make people aware, he's a hero," said the woman's brother.
