A Soperton man lost his life early Wednesday morning as a result of a house fire. Soperton Fire Chief Lee Henry said firefighters were dispatched to a single story frame dwelling around 2:00 a.m. where they found the structure engulfed in flames and the lone occupant of the home deceased. Chief Henry said the State Fire Marshal was called to investigate, and his initial findings are that the fire started in the kitchen area around a surge protector. The Fire chief said the body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab, as is standard protocol in such deaths. Treutlen County Sheriff Tommy Corbin said the man has been identified as 66 year-old Timothy Wayne Graham, and that Graham's autopsy determined that he died of smoke and soot inhalation.
