Fire crews with Chatham Emergency Services (CES) have extinguished a hard to access blaze on Turner Rock Road on Whitemarsh Island. The fire broke out Thursday afternoon. Fire officials say the fire is difficult for crews to access because the road was narrow. Additionally, there were no fire hydrants near for crews to access. Phil Koster with CES says they had to bring in water tanks to put out the blaze. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Koster says no one inside was injured. With the dry condition, the fire risk is high. CES is reminding residents to extinguish cigarettes completely and do not burn trash at this time.
