Man hit, killed by car in Eatonton

Authorities say a man walked who into the path of an oncoming car early Thursday along U.S. Highway 441 in Eatonton has died. The victim had no identification on him, and authorities are seeking the public’s help to identify him. Trooper First Class J.D. Cook, who is assigned to the Georgia State Patrol post in Madison, said he was dispatched to the call by the Eatonton Police Department. The accident happened shortly before 2 a.m. at the intersection of Ga. Route 24 and Georgia Route 16 on the bypass. Cook told The Union-Recorder that the victim walked into the path of an oncoming car and was struck. The victim received medical care from firefighters/first responders with Eatonton Fire Rescue and personnel from the Putnam County Emergency Medical Services before being taken by ambulance to the emergency room of Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton where he later died.
