Dozens of high school seniors in Richmond County will finally get the chance to jump-start their career with the Augusta Fire Department. They can take a written exam June 4 at Julian Smith Casino.
It's part of an agreement between Augusta Fire and the school system that gives qualified applicants the chance to make a good salary along with city benefits, right out of high school.
The exam was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“During this time, we still have people that find other jobs, we still have people that are retiring. And so, to keep our staff at a level that we can provide the service to the citizens that they need, it is vital that we continue to hire. We just have to assure that we're doing it in a safe manner,” explained Augusta Fire Chief and EMA Director Christopher James. Now, the fire department is moving forward with new safety measures in place.
