The Savannah Fire Dept. (SFD) responded to two early Thanksgiving morning fires. At 2:14 a.m., firefighters were sent to a reported fire on the 1300 block of East 54th Street, where they found light smoke streaming from the front door of the home and forced entry. Firefighters said no one was there at the time of the fire and it was unclear if the house was permanently occupied. About three hours later, at 5:23 a.m., firefighters were sent to a reported fire on the 200 block of Millen Street. Firefighters said they found heavy smoke streaming from a vacant house under renovation. According to the SFD, firefighters forced entry into the home, searched for occupants and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported at either fire and the cause of each fire is under investigation, according to SFD officials.
