The Henry County Fire Department is getting new equipment to protect both the community and firefighters.
The Board of Commissioners approved HCPD's request to purchase 125 AVON First Responder Kits. The masks offer wearers protection against chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological and toxic chemicals and materials.
The kits will cost $69,125 in total or $553 per mask and will be funded using monies from the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding. The grant was awarded to HCPD in July by the Bureau of Justice Assistance for the purchase of supplies and equipment that will be used to prevent, prepare and respond to the coronavirus. The BOC also approved the lease of two new fire trucks for the department’s fleet. The first, a Stock Pierce Impel Rescue, will cost $75,854 per year for seven years for a total of $634,900.
