Atlanta Fire and Rescue battled a blaze which destroyed portions of home estimated to be around a century old in the Morningside community Friday evening.
Flames broke out after 6 p.m. on East Morningside Drive N.E. near the intersection of Piedmont Avenue N.E. The original call was that a man was trapped inside the home, however, when fire crews arrived the homeowner was out of the home, according to Atlanta fire. He was not injured. No one was else was inside the home. The home is estimated to have been built around the early 1900s, according to an Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesperson on the scene.
Flames gutted the second floor and attic. There was some damage to the first floor.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
