As a nationwide investigation has revealed a possible gap in training to fight electric vehicle fires, we wanted to know -- how many electric vehicles are riding around Middle Georgia?
Spotlight on America found that many fire departments around the country aren't well-equipped when it comes to knowing how to fight electric vehicle fires.
Fire training instructor Jason Leone says more water is needed to fight these fires, and crews need to know exactly where the battery could be since there's a risk of it getting ignited in a car fire.
And Spotlight on America found that since electric vehicle fires are still a relatively new occurrence, there's no national database on trends for how often they happen. In Georgia, the number of electric cars that are registered totals 149,484 statewide -- a 19 percent increase from 2020.
