A raging fire in southwest Atlanta displaced people from about a dozen apartments on Saturday morning. The flames gutted Harvest Oak Apartments at 2989 Delmar Lane. A battalion chief said the call came at 3:40 a.m. and the first units to arrive encountered heavy fire in the center of the building. Firefighters got the fire under control 22 minutes. Officials assessing the damage said one entire building containing 12 units was destroyed. The American Red Cross of Georgia is assisting 26 people displaced by the blaze. Red Cross volunteers supported the fire's victims with food, water and blankets for 10 families who were in the building. Volunteers also coordinated temporary lodging, meals, clothing and other essential items. Red Cross officials expect more people to seek assistance and total number of people impacted in not yet known.
