VIDEO: Amid the lightning in Coweta County on Friday, one home suffered the brunt of the damage as it became engulfed in flames.
Neighbors of the home told Channel 2's Jesse Pope that lightning struck a tree, and the tree fell on the Sharpsburg, Ga house, leading to its destruction. Luckily, the house owners were not at the home when it burned down.
A neighbor also told Channel 2 that a dog was inside hiding behind a dryer before being helped to safety,
The owners were not home at the time of the fire. The Coweta Fire department said the house was destroyed, and after they arrived on the scene at 3:38 p.m.
It took fire crews about 45 minutes to put the fire out.
