Savannah Police have arrested a man they say impersonated local firefighters in order to solicit donations. On Tuesday police put out an alert in an effort to identify the man whose image was captured on a surveillance camera and by Friday authorities say they had him identified. Ernest Wayne Nissley, 48, is accused of asking several local businesses for donations for a local firefighter with cancer but police say he is not affiliated with Savannah Fire or Chatham Emergency Services as he allegedly claimed. While speaking with businesses he has attempted to sell raffle tickets and meals as part of the fundraising efforts, police said. Nissley was arrested earlier Friday and charged with theft by deception and commercial gambling. He also had a hold for extradition.
