PHOTO: More than two dozen firefighters from Milledgeville Fire Rescue Services and Baldwin County Fire Rescue battled intense flames Wednesday night that destroyed a home in the city. The home is located on the 400 block of Forest Street. Milledgeville Fire Rescue Services Battalion Chief Ronald Crooms Jr. said city and county firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. When the first firefighters arrived, the home was fully involved. No one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters battled the raging fire for more than an hour before finally bringing it under control. Fire officials have not released a cause for the fire. Crooms, along with Battalion Chief Joe Taylor, directed firefighters while they fought the fire. Thick, black smoke could be seen for several miles billowing into the skyline around Milledgeville.
