PHOTOS: Firefighters battled a building fire for more than four hours in Fitzgerald. According to officials, a call came in at around 2:22 a.m. Wednesday morning about a fire at the end of Grant Street and Central Avenue. Major James Reynolds with the Fitzgerald Police Department tells WALB that they arrived on the scene at 2:38 a.m. and one end of a building was engulfed in flames. He says, “it’s believed that a power line started the fire and that a second building caught fire, but it did not completely burn down.” WALB arrived on the scene at around 5:20 a.m. but was kept back for safety reasons. Smoke could be seen through the streets and in the sky above the buildings. The fire was contained and seen to be put out around 6:30 a.m. and Fitzgerald fire crews began leaving the scene shortly after 7 a.m.
