The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing person near Champagne Ponds on the Big Island.
Rescue crews were searching for a missing swimmer, 31-year-old Logan Whitfield, a visitor from Canada. He was last seen Sunday night.
Whitfield’s mother told officials her son went swimming at Champagne Ponds at around 6 p.m. Sunday but did not return.
Crews with the Coast Guard, Hawaii Police Department and Hawaii Fire Department are canvassed the area for any signs of Whitfield for several days. responders conducted 18 searches covering 413 square miles in the two days since Whitfield was reported missing.
He is described as 5’10”, 170 pounds with short black hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing black swim trunks, a black t-shirt, water shoes, a black mask and snorkel.
