Community members and first responders were honored Monday after helping rescue a man who collapsed and stopped breathing on a basketball court in May.
The Kaua'i Fire Department (KFD) held a ceremony to commemorate those who helped resuscitate Dino Pabre after a scary scene at a basketball scrimmage.
“The immediate actions of our community members and first responders involved saved the life of Mr. Pabre, and today we recognize and thank each individual for their role in this remarkable rescue,” said Deputy Fire Chief Kilipaki Vaughan.
Pabre was at the Waimea High School gym when he collapsed and stopped breathing. Pacific Missile Range Facility Firefighter, fellow coach and friend Jason Peralta instructed a player to call 911, then initiated high performance CPR compressions.
