An accidental fire destroyed two homes in Pearl City Saturday night. The Honolulu Fire Department determined the fire was caused by a problem with an air conditioner. The fire left 18 people without a home. Flames and smoke ripped through the homes last night around 10:30. It took HFD firefighters more than two hours to completely extinguish the blaze. The fire started at the two story home at 2158 Hoohai Street and spread to a neighbor's home next door. All 18 people from both units were able to get out with no injuries. Both homes are charred and not livable anymore. One house is home to 16 people and the family says they lost everything. Total damages for both homes are estimated at over $1.7 million. Throughout the day, people from the neighborhood and around Oahu dropped by with monetary donations and supplies from toiletries to water and food.
