A 21-year-old man who ran into trouble at Spitting Cave in Portlock this morning has died, according to police.
Positive identification is pending.
Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant said the man was at Spitting Cave with a friend when the 21-year-old man jumped into the ocean and ran into trouble. Five units with 15 firefighters responded to a report of a swimmer in distress at about 6:30 a.m.
Firefighters found him unresponsive approximately 60 feet beneath the surface of the water.
HFD brought him out of the ocean and into a rescue boat where they immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation and used a defibrillator on the man.
Once HFD reached the shore, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel took over and continued lifesaving treatment.
This is the second time in four days that a person ran into trouble at Spitting Cave.
