50 acres of land was scorched Sunday on Kaua'i after multiple brush fires broke out along Koke'e Road. Waimea firefighters responded to the first fire at approximately 5 a.m., which burned roughly two-acres. A second unit responsed to the next fire burning seven acres of land in the valley along the west side of Koke'e Road. Hanapepe firefighters assisted with the two other fires that were reported along the east side of Koke'e Road. Multiple trucks and engines, a county water tender and a Rescue 3 personnel aboard an Air 1 helicopter was needed in order to contain the fires. Fourteen total units responsed to the fires, that were all fully extinguished Sunday evening. The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife will continue to monitor the area.
