Red Cross assisting 8 left homeless after Maui home fire

Red Cross volunteers are helping eight people left homeless after a Maui home fire on Thursday night. Firefighters were called to the home on Hakina Place in Waiehu about 7:30 p.m. Thursday. An elderly woman who was home when the fire started was able to escape uninjured with the help of bystanders. But the family dog died in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
