The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to a 911 call at 11:55 am for divers in distress near Kaaawa on Monday. Six resource units staffed with approximately 17 personnel responded to the ocean emergency. The first HFD unit arrived on the scene at around 12 pm. and confirmed that a paddleboarder and two divers were approximately 1000 feet offshore and were not making progress inland against the ocean current and strong tradewinds. While HFD's Air 3 and rescue 1 Boat were en route to the scene, two firefighters from the first arriving unit entered the ocean with a rescue board and made contact with the group at 12:29 pm.
