Fire crews respond to fire at Embassy Suites in Waikiki; guests, nearby restaurants evacuated

Crews are on scene in Waikiki, after a call came in around the Embassy Suites hotel. Honolulu Police and fire crews were called to the scene around Beach Walk and Kalia Roads. Roads are currently closed to traffic. Reports at the scene say it is a suspected electrical fire. Embassy Suites guests were evacuated, along with nearby restaurants. The Honolulu Fire Department released the following statement: HFD received a call for a building fire at 201 Beach Walk Street at 9:02 p.m. Ten resource units, staffed with 39 personnel, responded to the emergency. The first unit arrived at 9:08 p.m. and reported that there was no indication of smoke or fire from the exterior of the building. Firefighters proceeded to the fire alarm system panel to determine where the detectors were activated in the building and are currently working with the facility’s building engineers with investigating. Also, the Hawaiian Electric Company has also been asked to respond to the scene to assist.
