Small airplane makes an emergency landing in Hawi

North Kohala officers responded to a small airplane that made an emergency hard landing south of Upolu Airport on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024. The officers responded to the Big Island Gravity Skydiving plane at 10:59 a.m. The pilot landed in a pasture south of the airport in Hawi. The hard landing was caused by an engine failure, which happened at around 300 feet in the air. There were no passengers onboard. The Hawaii Fire Department treated the pilot for a minor injury who was released after.
