Firefighters on Kauai responded to two fires Sunday. The first was a brush fire at the Paulaula State Historic Site in Waimea. KFD got the call for this fire around 12:15 p.m. When crews arrived, they found a roughly 50' by 50' area of grass and brush on fire. With the help of private land owners, firefighters quickly gained the upper hand on this and had the scene cleared by 2:45 p.m. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The second fire occurred in Kalaheo. First responders were called out to a home along Ikena Place just before 6 p.m. Multiple units responded and, once on scene, found flames coming from the second floor of a two-story condo. Crews were able to knock it down and later extinguish it, confining the fire to a storage room.
