A Monday afternoon fire at a Clinton apartment caused $50,000 in damage, according to a Clinton Fire Department press release.
At approximately 2:35 p.m., Clinton fire crews responded to a report of smoke coming from Apt. 6 at 846 Gateway Ave. The first units to arrive initially found nothing showing from the exterior of the two-and-a-half story, 12-unit apartment complex. However, as the crews entered the building, they found thick black smoke in the specified unit, the press release says.
The building was evacuated. One man and two family dogs were rescued by ladder from a separate upper back patio by fire crews on the scene, the release says.
Though the fire was contained to Apt. 6 of 846 Gateway Ave., a neighboring building was also cleared as some smoke from the fire made its way into the building. The fire was reportedly extinguished in approximately 20 minutes, and crews remained on the scene for two hours.
