The Waterloo Community Foundation has announced the recipient of a Greg Freshwater Scholarship is Waterloo firefighter, Onyotse Agbese. Established in November 2017, the scholarship aims to honor the accomplishments of Waterloo firefighter, Greg Freshwater. The 27-year-old was killed when he was hit by a car while running in Waterloo on August 29, 2017. At the time of his death, Freshwater was a paramedic/EMT student. Trained paramedics are much-needed in Waterloo, and establishing the scholarship was a natural step to honor his hard work and the impact he made. With the scholarship, Agbese will attend paramedic school at Hawkeye Community College. She has been with Waterloo Fire Rescue since 2015. Three other Waterloo firefighters have been awarded Freshwater Scholarships since the fund was established.
