Like many kids, Wayne Brosam said he dreamed of becoming firefighter when growing up.
As the Atlantic resident got older that dream came true and now he says to give back to the community.
“I’ve just been a big supporter of the community, and always wanted to be a part of the fire and rescue,” he said. “The biggest thing is just being able to help out.” This month Brosam was named Atlantic’s Firefighter of the Year in recognition of his passion for the work and commitment to the job.
“I was definitely surprised,” he said.
The award is based on the amount of training and number of calls a firefighter responds to.
“We do a lot of training,” he said. “(And) throughout the year, responding to all the incidents, whether it’s fire or EMS. It’s a huge commitment.”
