The Iowa City Fire Department is investigating a fire that broke out at a home at 740 Kirkwood Avenue Thursday morning. It happened around 6:15 a.m. According to officials, neighbors reported seeing the porch on fire. When they got there, firefighters found flames coming from the two-story home. No one was home. Firefighters said they contained the fire to the basement and first floor. They had it under control within 16 minutes. It's unclear as to what started the fire, but fire officials said the house sustained about $70,000 in damage. No one was hurt.
