Atlantic Firefighters responded to a residential fire at 509 Oak Street Sunday evening. The call went out at around 9:15 p.m. A neighbor tells KSOM/KS95 News he called 9-1-1 after noticing flames coming from the back window of the home. Atlantic Fire Chief Mark McNees tells KSOM/KS95 News when they arrived on scene heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the back of the home and heavy smoke coming from the eves. McNees says firefighters knocked the fire down from the outside before making an interior approach inside the residence. McNees says the family renting the home was at a neighbor's house when the fire broke out. There were no injuries. McNees says the cause of the fire is under investigation. McNees said the renters stated they might have left some candles burning inside the residence.
