Mike Baltes has always loved fire trucks. In late 2017, the young man with special needs got his dream job as the official truck washer for the Osage Fire Department. Every Tuesday afternoon, Baltes is at the fire station to keep the trucks shiny and do other housekeeping chores such as sweeping out dead leaves if they get in the garage or washing the floor. "He's very enthusiastic," said firefighter Tim Blake, who is Baltes' direct supervisor. Blake said only "hell or high water" could prevent Baltes from doing his job. Osage Fire Chief Kurt Angell picks up Baltes at the residential group home in Osage where he lives to bring him to the fire station. He also drives him home afterwards. "He does a good job," Angell said. "The trucks are as clean as they have ever been."
