A Cedar Rapids man is now charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated after his vehicle caught fire in a ditch. The Linn County Sheriff's Office says Nicholas Dukes, 23 of Cedar Rapids, lost control while heading north on Sisley Grove Road and entered the ditch on both sides of the road. It happened at 2:07 Monday morning about three miles from Atkins on Sisley Grove Road just north of E Avenue. The sheriff's office says the vehicle traveled through a corn field before becoming stuck. Investigators say Dukes tried to leave the scene, causing the vehicle to overheat and catch fire. Deputies found him after he walked away from the scene. Dukes was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. He's also charged with failure to maintain control.
