The Sheldon Fire Department battled a mobile home fire Tuesday afternoon.
The Sheldon Fire Company was paged out to the home located at 520 N 5th Avenue. The resident was alerted of the fire from a smoke alarm. On arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the front eyes and rear of the trailer. Firefighters met with the trailer resident in the front yard, who said everyone was out then went back into the smoke-filled house to get a pet. Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt says the resident had to be pulled out of the house.
Firefighters made entry into the trailer to attack the fire, which was in the northwest bedroom, and during the search of the house, the family cat was located and rescued. The fire was contained to the trailer’s bedroom, firefighters removed the contents of the bedroom to extinguish hot spots, but there was severe damage to the rest of the trailer.
Hindt says the trailer will most likely be a total loss and a potential cause of the fire is an electrical extension cord.
