Ottumwa Police announced this morning that an arrest has been made in connection to a string of fires on Quincy Avenue in late August. Authorities say Tanner Stone Simmers, 18, of Ottumwa was arrested Thursday morning and has been charged with three counts of arson in the second degree. During the early morning hours of August 27th, three separate fires were lit on the outside of businesses located on Ottumwa’s south side. The first fire was reported at 3:02 AM at Gilworth Furniture. The next was reported at 3:09 AM at Dollar General. And the third and final fire was reported at 5:25 AM at Hobby Lobby. Police say they strung together a series of surveillance video to make this arrest. Simmers has already been bonded out of the Wapello County Jail.
