The man accused of setting a southwest Cedar Rapids apartment building on fire, killing one person, will now go to trial later this spring.
New court filings made Monday show Dallas Tullis, 24, will start his trial on first-degree murder and first-degree arson charges on April 20 after the February 2019 fire at Hawthorne Hills Apartments in the 2200 block of C Street. Steven Balvin, 65, died from injuries suffered in the fire two days later.
Several other people, including Tullis, were also hurt. He was arrested and charged once he was released from the hospital.
Tullis is in the Linn County Jail on $2 million bond. He is pleading insanity in the case.
