VIDEO: Sioux City firefighters battled flames and battled the heat Tuesday morning, And we don't just mean the warm weather.
They responded to a fire call at the Sioux City Foundry, which deals in molten iron, welding and steel fabrication. In other words, it's a hot work environment.
The fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. inside a machine known as a "hopper." Firefighters got the flames knocked down within 15 minutes.
There were no injuries, but crews did face some unique challenges putting the fire out.
"The sheer size of the buildings themselves, typically we have a preset length of hose that's ready to go on the apparatus, and a lot of times we have to extend those lines in order to even reach the fire," said Ryan Collins, deputy fire marshal.
