An Idaho man died after his car was struck by an Amtrak train in north Idaho early Friday morning, Idaho State Police said. The crash happened just before 12:40 a.m. in Athol, between Coeur d'Alene. Investigators say 34-year-old Robert Miller was stopped on the railroad crossing on State Highway 54 when an Amtrak train collided with his pickup. Miller died on scene. Investigators say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Nobody on the train was hurt. The railroad arms and signals were damaged in the crash. Flaggers will temporarily be doing manual traffic control for passing trains as a result.
