You may have seen or read about a firefighter shortage. CBS2 reached out to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), which is based in Boise. They told us that certain positions in remote locations have been difficult to fill for various reasons. Some of that being the location or due to wage competition. However, NIFC told us there is no mass shortage of wildland firefighters and they will be responding to fires with normal resources as they have done in previous years. NIFC also works with federal, state, and local partners to access all available resources when there are wildfires.
