On Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at approximately 9:11am, the Lewiston Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1440 Burrell Avenue in Lewiston. An off-duty Nez Perce County Sheriff deputy driving by the residence was the initial caller. The Deputy called in the fire and assisted the only resident in the structure to safety before smoke engulfed the interior of the structure. First arriving crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from approximately one third of the structure. The fire was knocked down within ten minutes and crews began salvage and overhaul operations. Two dogs were removed from the yard in good condition by LPD officers and secured with the animal control officer. Crews remained on scene for approximately another hour to complete overhaul and check for extension.
