The Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 for a report of a structure fire located at the 900 block of Jefferson Avenue in Idaho Falls. The reporting person told dispatch there was heavy smoke coming from the home. When firefighters arrived they confirmed heavy smoke coming from the attic of a single story home with a basement. The majority of the fire was in one bedroom at the back of the home. The lone occupant, an adult male, was found deceased inside the home. Firefighters reported having the fire knocked down by approximately 2:47 p.m., keeping the flames from extending to the rest of the home or to other structures in the area. There were no other injuries to civilians or first responders.
