The Wapiti Fire has burned 125,540 acres, and containment is 75% completed as of Sunday morning. Near critical fire conditions persist into Sunday, with helicopters grounded due to wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph, according to the Wapiti Fire Information team. The Stanley Basin tied the record for hottest day on Saturday, reaching 83 degrees. Strong winds to the west will bring in colder weather on Monday. Incident Commander Steve Shaw said that crews will “plan accordingly, respond accordingly, and will engage responsibly.” Due to the fire conditions on Saturday, new isolated areas of heat popped up around the fire, according to fire officials. Helicopters dropped around 116,000 gallons of water before wind grounded them in the late afternoon. Crews are engaging in hotspots and working on road repair as well.
