A pedestrian was apparently struck by a newer-model sedan on Fosterburg Road, and was rushed to a hospital by personnel Wednesday night.
The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. at the entrance of Bottoms Up Sports Bar & Grill, according to a Telegraph reporter on the scene.
Alton police and fire personnel responded to the scene, as well as the fire department’s ambulance. Firefighters performed a “scoop and run” while using an automated CPR machine on the male victim’s chest, in an effort to hurriedly transport the victim to an Alton-area hospital. CPR continued on the suspect as he was being transported by personnel.
The victim was reportedly not breathing and did not have a heart beat when rushed from the scene.
Following the accident, police had closed Fosterburg Road in both directions, as an investigation was underway as of Wednesday night.
