Six firefighters marked their promotions with a pinning ceremony Thursday. Joe Snodgrass, Rick Reimann and Mark Vanderwerf were promoted from the rank of driver-engineer to captain. Jon Mundhenke, Jake Maxedon and John Gordon became driver-engineers. Family and co-workers pinned badges to their uniforms to note the next phase of their careers. Snodgrass has served almost 19 years in the Springfield Fire Department; Reimann and Vanderwerf have almost 13 years of experience each. The three had to take an exam that placed them on a promotional list. Fire Chief Allen Reyne said firefighters often spend hours away from family to score one or two more points on the exam. “We have had captain’s promotional lists in the past get to the 25th person,” Reyne wrote in an e-mail.
