After council passed a budget Tuesday night, the city is another step closer to getting separate police and fire chiefs.
The budget totals almost $52,000,000. About $14,700,000 is dedicated to public safety for the fire and police departments.
Two positions will be cut, a code inspector and a public affairs coordinator. That will save the city about $110,000. The budget also includes a 1% hotel-motel tax increase. The mayor says this will make way for other improvements.
Mayor Rickey Williams says, "It provides us some revenue to do work and maintenance in the parks people visit when they come to Danville. It’s important for the quality of life for residents. If our city pool isn’t in good shape, which we only have one here, we have to make sure it’s in good working order so people have somewhere safe and fun to go.”
